[Design] Assignment 4.2 Prototyping (3 Concepts)

Problem statement: With the course evaluation software it will be possible to get feedback from participants / students. Primary user needs:

  • It’s easy for trainers to create a new survey
  • Visual representation (e.g. radar charts, red-flag) of the survey results
  • Runs on all devices (smart phones, portable computers, desktop PCs etc.)
  • Fast bug-fixing and long term support for major releases
  • Adjust future versions of the software to additional user needs
  • Integrates into existing infrastructure such as learning management systems

Second, participants complete survey:

Third, participants earn reward for survey completion:

Last but not least, trainer gets aggregated survey results:

Assignment: Build some prototypes. Obviously, the nature of your prototypes will be very different depending on the design domain you are working in. If you are designing a building, you probably won’t build a comprehensive prototype; rather you’ll probably build something using a digital tool or make a model from cardboard. If you are designing a website, you’ll probably create a prototype using a graphics program like PowerPoint, or possibly using a web-based design tool. Your prototypes may be focused or comprehensive, analytical or physical. At this point in the design process you are probably most concerned with answering the question “Will it work?” If you do not have a lot of experience making things, do not panic. Do your best using whatever materials and tools you have at your disposal. Even a simple prototype will usually be highly informative. Post (your website address only):

  1. Ensure that you have posted previously: so that your work is self explanatory and for the benefit of the peer reviewers, please provide the one-sentence problem statement for the gap you are addressing and a list of the primary needs for your artifact. (Recall that the primary needs are the bold statements associated with each cluster of needs in your list of needs. You’ll probably have 6-12 of these.) Your problem statement can be different from what you submitted last week. Remember that it is totally normal for the problem definition to evolve. Indeed, it is even possible that the gap you are addressing may change entirely. [1 point]
  2. The concept sketches you created of the concepts you are prototyping (from last week). [1 point]
  3. Photographs (or other images) of the prototypes you created, adhering to the guidelines for student photography. [7 points]

9 points total.
